Thought I might write a quick post this morning about finally leaving for the small, remote Alaskan village of Bettles. Hopefully my posts won’t get too spread out after this.
This morning at 10, I will be boarding a small aircraft that will fly my coworkers and I up to a bush village. I have lived my entire life in mostly urban and suburban areas, or areas within a two hour drive of groceries at the most rural. And I have lived that life completely in Washington. Of course I have visited other states, but never had residence in one.
This week was my first time in Alaska. I spent the week training in Fairbanks with some of my coworkers and other employees heading to different parks. But now we head to our duty station to continue our training.
I am excited and nervous to “get away from it all.” I won’t have any cell service or wifi, no cable. But there are a surprising number of modern conveniences in the Arctic. I will have running water, a dishwasher, a washer and drier, and most importantly a house to live in.
I’m not really sure what to expect, but I think an excellent experience awaits me.
